About Content

0

Well, what is there to say about content that isn’t already common sense? Not too much, so I’ll be brief and to the point.

Content is everything you put on your site. It’s your blog comments, product descriptions, main page introduction, and everything else you publicly post on your website.

Content quite simply is the most important part of your online presence. It’s the biggest factor in your websites ranking and it is your content that will bring visitors in, and keep them coming back. There are a wide variety of descriptions of what constitutes content and its importance, but perhaps the best thing to remember is that content has different meanings for different businesses, and that the goals of your site determine if your content is good. Here I’ll focus on content as it relates to the web, and websites in particular.

Some of the basics of web content are as follows.

Make your core content as complete and informative as possible.

This is the foundation of your website, and the pages that comprise your core content will vary based on your business or intents. Core pages are typically your main page, about us page, product pages, FAQ’s, and ordering information to give some examples. These pages should receive the most attention and be complete before moving on. They should be concise and descriptive, and clearly describe their individual subjects.

Peripheral content or complimentary pages.

This is the content that expands on your core content and enhances its quality. It should explain your products or services and add helpful information. This can be helpful hints and tips, how to’s, product reviews or commentary, and just about anything else that will help to set your site apart from all the others out there vying for the same customers and jobs you are. It is what will help your visitors decide to purchase from you or your advertisers, and will make them want to keep up with what you are doing.

Be interactive.

Allowing your visitors to interact on your website can be a great way to enhance your content. User comments, reviews, question and answer pages, and contests are just a few of the ways you can build content and keep it fresh.

Keep your content relevant and updated.

Your content is one of the biggest factors in most search engine ranking determinations. Keep your content relevant to your sites theme. Fresh content is part of having quality content. Regularly updated content relevant to your sites theme will show search engines an active website, and will help to improve your standings in the rankings. It will keep your visitors coming back, and help to establish your presence and authority in your chosen field

Be consistent in maintaining your content.

Your visitors and search engines like to be greeted with fresh, relevant content when they visit your site. Keep a schedule whether it is weekly, bi weekly, or monthly. When visitors find quality content on a subject they are interested in, the single best way to keep them coming back or purchasing your products or services is to have fresh content to present to them when they return.

Hire someone to provide your content.

If you find that producing and maintaining your content is too time consuming, or your skills lie in areas other than writing or communication, you can hire someone to handle your content needs for you. You can pay someone by the article, or you can set up contracts for regular deliveries of content. Oftentimes you only need to discuss with your content provider what your needs are, how you would like to present your content, and provide the subjects you would like to have addressed. You can work with a provider to rewrite your own content, or simply give them a subject and let them handle everything for you. The choices vary widely and usually you can find a content provider who will specialize in catering to your particular needs. Paying a reliable content provider is an excellent way to get all the benefits of quality content, without having to spend the time and resources on producing it that you could otherwise spend running all the other aspects of your business.
